Mr. Justin Nelson is the Director of Bands at Fremont RE-2 School District. He graduated from Colorado State University- Pueblo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and his main instrument is the euphonium. During his time at CSU- Pueblo, Mr. Nelson played in Pride of Pueblo Marching Band, Jazz Lab II, and the University Wind Ensemble. Prior to teaching in Fremont RE-2, Mr. Nelson served as the music teacher at Lincoln School of Science and Technology in Canon City, Colorado. While in Canon City, Mr. Nelson taught K-5 General music and beginning band.

Mr. Nelson is an active member of the marching arts community. He is a former member of Drum Corps International’s Blue Knights where he was able to travel the country performing in different arenas every night. The Blue Knights Drum Corp is a member of Ascend Performing Arts and has been a world class finalist for the past 20 years. Mr. Nelson has also been a member of the Pride of All Nebraska Marching Band and the Pride of Pueblo Marching Band. Mr. Nelson has also served as a visual caption head to various schools across the front range.

In his free time, Mr. Nelson enjoys watching baseball. He is a huge fan of the Colorado Rockies. He also enjoys fishing, playing board games and eating pizza. Mr. Nelson is very excited to be a member of the Fremont RE-2 community and to continue the tradition of excellence established in this band’s culture.
